The Department provides an excellent research platform with one full semester dedicated to research as per Himachal Pradesh University along-with well-equipped labs and infrastructure. All the faculty members are experts in their respective fields. Our faculty members are active in research with over 55+ research publications and book chapters in reputed journals like Elsevier, Springer, . Out of these, there is one patent and 11+ research publications with students of SILB. Department of Biotechnology has the following thrust areas:

Biotech Bloom: An activity club:
Biotech Bloom club was started in June 2022 to prepare young minds for all-round development. The club was initiated to prepare students links with their alumni, and experts in the field, and participation in conferences and workshops. It aims to develop the potential of the students beyond the course curriculum. The club innovates to go beyond the curriculum and indulge in activities in the exciting world of combinatorial sciences for different biotechnological products and processes.

Research has been the most important aspect of Biotechnology and In the Department we are working on research projects positively impacting the Society and Environment.
- Conservation of microbial diversity and plant varieties of Himalayas for developing conventional and novel treatment and therapies for some common diseases.
- Fermentation lab has variety of wines and vinegars developed as part of the practical curriculum of the students to provide cutting edge technology to conventional methods.
